J-K highway operation: Militants and armed forces exchange gunfire following contact

Srinagar: Armed forces and militants were involved in a gunfight which broke out on Thursday after forces established contact with the suspects who had escaped earlier in the nearby woods in Jajjar Kotli area of Jammu and Kashmir highway.

After a massive search operation had been launched by forces jointly, exchange of fire broke out.

“The firing is going on from the both sides,” a police official said.

Earlier, restrictions were imposed on the flow of traffic along Nagrota-Jhajjar Kotli stretch of the highway.

All educational institutions within the Tikri Zone were shut on Thursday as a precautionary measure.

Earlier, a CRPF man was injured after suspected militants travelling on a truck fired at a CRPF naka party in Jajjar Kotli area along the Srinagar-Jammu highway on Wednesday. The injured man, identified as Domesh Dass, has been shifted to a hospital for treatment.A police spokesman stated that an AK-47 rifle and three magazines were recovered from the truck. Both the truck driver and the conductor have been taken into custody.

“One AK & 3 magazines recovered from the intercepted truck. Dvr,conductor taken into custody. 2-3 suspected militants who ran away from the truck are being chased.police army and Crpf activated.Cordon &search operation is on ahead of suketar v near Katra crossing National Highway,” police said in a statement via Twitter.
