North Carolina was left drenched after the outer bands of Hurricane Florence swept the coast on Thursday and flooded roads, rivers and causing power knockouts, Reuters reported. The Hurricane is all set to inflict a storm on Friday, affecting millions in its path.
Even after being downgraded to a Category 1 storm on the five-step Saffir-Simpson scale on Friday morning, the National Hurricane Centre said that the hurricane was still dangerous and unpredictable.
The Hurricane will slam into the North Carolina coast, before drifting southwest and turning inland on Saturday, the NHC said.
The storm’s sustained winds were reported to be at 150 km per hour, down from a peak of 180 kmph reported on Wednesday. Ever since the warning was issued, upto a million residents were evacuated.
The NHC disclosed that the Hurricane is still a threat to the US eastern Seaboard, i.e from southern Georgia to southern Virginia, which can lead to catastrophic rainfall that can flood low lying areas.
