Municipal Polls: Clashes in Bagh-e-Mehtab, Machoo area of Srinagar

In the Bagh-e-Mehtab and Machoo area of Srinagar clashes erupted during the ongoing Municipal polls. Reports said that youth took to streets amid a complete shutdown and pelted stones at the forces deployed near railway bridge for the conduct of municipal polls.

They said the forces responded by firing teargas shells, triggering further clashes. Meanwhile, 3.5 per cent polling was recorded in three wards of Srinagar until 11 am.

Earlier, A Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) candidate was injured when angry protesters attacked him with stones in Bandipora district.

Adil Ahmad Buhru, who is contesting from Ward-15 here, sustained minor injuries when some youth pelted stones at him near Dachigam polling booth this afternoon. Buhru was on his way to the booth to cast his vote.

However, police refuted that the BJP leader was either attacked or injured.
