Chased and arrested one militant following grenade attack in Pattan, says police

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Thursday said that it arrested one of the militants who carried out a grenade attack on a police party in Pattan area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

Giving details, a spokesman said that a police naka party was deployed at Baba Teng Pattan after “credible” inputs about the movement of militants on Baramulla-Srinagar highway.

“During checking, while a passenger vehicle was signaled to stop, militants boarding the vehicle lobbed a hand grenade on police party. In this incident one Police Officer DySP Zaffar Mehdi and two other policemen Shabir Ahmad and Ashiq Hussain sustained injuries and were evacuated to hospital. They are stated to be stable now,” said the spokesman.

“The militants while trying to flee from the scene of the crime were chased and one terrorist was apprehended,” he added.

The spokesman identified the arrested militant as Faizan Majeed Bhat son of Abdul Majeed Bhat resident of Naibug Tral who was recruited into militant ranks recently.
