GoI, Governor administration should stop celebrating ‘sham elections’ and stop bloodbath in Kashmir, says PDP’s Bukhari

Srinagar: Senior PDP leader and former finance minister Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari has said the Government of India and governor administration in J&K must now come out from its election related celebratory mode and focus on an immediate end to bloodshed of innocent civilians in Kashmir.

Bukhari who is outside the country, has said that unfortunately the political mainstream has now been restricted to issuing statements on these innocent and unwarranted civilian killings in Kashmir.

“Mere condemnation and protest statements won’t do,” Bukhari emphasized.

He observed that time has come for the entire political spectrum in J&K to join their heads to take the state out of political quagmire which is bleeding its innocent citizens profusely.

“The killing of seven civilians at Laroo in Kulgam district the other day has become more pathetic by the government’s lame excuses which are aimed at defending its unrestrained security forces,” the former finance minister observed.

He said that the law enforcing agencies are not learning any lessons from previous such experiences. “Such reckless killings have in the past inflamed the situation and if such type of incidents are not stopped immediately, there is every likelihood that situation in the valley can take an ugly turn,” he cautioned.

Earlier, while leading a protest in Handwara, independent MLA Engineer Rashid urged the political parties not to “disgrace” the people further and make out a joint strategy to save Kashmir from further bloodbath.

Meanwhile a complete shutdown is being observed in Kashmir in the aftermath of seven civilian killings in Kulgam which took place on Sunday. A powerful explosion after a gunfight in Laroo village of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district in which three militants were killed led to the death of the civilians.

In Srinagar’s Old City, restrictions were clamped to foil any protests against the Kulgam killings. In Nowhatta, Rajouri Kadal, Saraf Kadal, Maharaj Gunj, Gojwara, Khanyar, Safa Kadal and other areas of the Old City, armed forces were keeping a tight vigil to keep protesters at bay, witnesses said. At many places, forces have laid razor wire to restrict movement of people.
