Clashes erupt in Kulgam after militant killings, civilian sustains bullet injury

Srinagar: A youth, identified as Faizan Rashid was injured after armed forces fired live ammunition and pellets at protesters in Redwani area of Kulgam on Friday.

Reports said that violent protests broke out in Redwani against the killing of four militants in a gunfight last night in Arwani area of Anantnag district. Three among the slain were residents of Kulgam district.

They said that the forces fired live ammunition, pellets and tear gas to break up the protests, resulting into injury to at least one protester.

The injured, identified as Faizan Rashid Sheikh of Rampora Kulgam, was shifted to SDH Bijbehara where he is being treated for bullet injury in his leg.

Earlier, Several persons were injured during intense clashes with the armed forces in Kulgam district on Friday following the killing of three local militants. Moreover, thousands of people took part in the funeral prayers of one of the slain militants, Sahir Makroo in Arwani area of Bijbehera. At least three rounds of funeral prayers were held to accommodate the huge rush of mourners who had reached Arwani from the adjacent and far-off villages.

Four militants of Hizb ul Mujahideen – Sahir Makroo of Arwani, Owais Ahmad Lone from Hawora-Mishpora area of Kulgam, Muzamil Magray of Watoo Aharbal and Amir Tantray of Damhal Hanjipora Kulgam – were killed in a gunfight with the forces in Khar mohalla of Arwani last night.
