Special NIA court extends judicial remand of DeM chief Andrabi, associates by 15 days, says DeM spokesperson

Srinagar: The judicial remand of Dukhtaran-e-Millat chairperson Asiya Andrabi, its secretary general Nahida Nasreen and its spokesperson Fahmeeda Sofi which ended today has been extended by 15 days, Kashmir Reader reported.

A spokesperson of DeM, cited by KR said that the remand of its leadership was supposed to end today, however, more the District & Session Judge, NIA special court, New Delhi extended the remand and fixed the next date of hearing as November 15.

The spokesperson said that the proceedings were held through a video conference.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) had claimed that a probe revealed that they were running a concerted campaign to elicit support from the neighbouring country and accused them of being involved in conspiracy and acts to “severely destabilize the sovereignty and integrity of India”.

The case was registered against the three women in April this year.

Andrabi was in a prison in Srinagar after the Jammu and Kashmir High Court cancelled her bail in June. NIA shifted Andrabi along with her two associates from Srinagar Central Jail to New Delhi in an alleged sedition case.

Later, the NIA raided the residence of Dukhtaran-e-Millat chief Asiya Andrabi at Iqbal Colony 90 feet road in Soura Srinagar.

Official sources said that searches are being carried out the residence of DeM chief in connection with a “sedition case” filed against them by the central agency.

The NIA, on directions of the Union Home Ministry, had registered a case against them as well as the organisation, which is banned under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, in April this year.

The agency had also said in the FIR that Andrabi and her associates had allegedly spoken, written and also published “visible representations that bring into hatred and contempt apart from exciting disaffection towards the Government of India”.
