Srinagar: In a video posted on its YouTube channel and its official Twitter account, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) introduced the first female pilot in Pakistan from Kashmir, Maryam Mujtaba.

In the four-minute video interview, First Officer Maryam revealed how she had been dreaming to fly from her childhood days, stating, “PIA gave me wings to fly.”

Stating how her parents were aware of her desire to be a pilot, she recalled how her father enrolled her into a flying school. When she procured her Commercial Pilot License (CPL), the airlines, at that time, had issued advertisements which led her to apply there.

She passed the admissions exam and subsequently joined the airlines. She called flying ‘the best profession for girls’.

She listed some of her hobbies to be car racing, riding bikes, painting and fashion designing.

She urged all the parents out there to motivate their daughters and to realize the power they hold over their daughters’ lives.

“They should motivate them to bring the best out of themselves,” she said.

She underlined how women should believe in themselves and their dreams, adding that they must learn how to achieve it.

She dismissed ideas of limiting oneself to one’s narrow thought processes and stated how everybody had the capacity to achieve anything in life.
