Two Pulwama men arrested during Poonch search operation were militant associates, says police

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Police Thursday said that the two Pulwama residents arrested during a search operation in Poonch yesterday were militant associates.

Addressing a presser, Senior Superintendent of Police, Poonch, Rajiv Pandey said that both the men arrested from a vehicle in Jarran wali Gali were tasked with ferrying weapons from Mendhar to Kashmir valley.

“Their involvement in more militancy-related activities is being probed,” he said.

Pandey said that two AK-56 rifles and as many magazines were recovered during initial searches, while four hand grenades were recovered from the vehicle after the duo were questioned.

“It seems the duo was acting as couriers of weapons from this area to the valley,” he said.

Aquib Ahmad Bhat and Shabir Ahmad Dar – both residents of Pulwama – were arrested from a vehicle in Jarran Wali Gali at a naka yesterday.
