Srinagar: A Central Reserve Police Force head constable was killed while two army men were injured in two separate militant attacks in Pulwama district on Sunday evening, the police said.

A police official said militants fired a UBGL grenade towards a camp of CRPF’s 183 battalion, near railway station in Kakapora, at around 7 pm.

Heavy firing occurred after the UBGL attack in which a CRPF man, who was manning a bunker, was injured, he said. The CRPF man was evacuated to primary health center Kakapora where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

The deceased CRPF man was identified as Chandrika Prasad of 183 battalion.

CRPF spokesman Sanjay Sharma confirmed the death of Prasad.

In a statement, a police spokesman also confirmed Prasad’s death.

“As the militants were trying to skip away (sic) from the area after the attack, security forces immediately cordoned off the area and initiated searches in the adjacent areas. Consequently exchange of fire between forces and militants took place till the last report was received,” the spokesman said.

Almost half an hour later, police said that ‘militants attacked a patrol of army’s 55 Rashtriya Rifles in nearby Larve village’.

He stated that two army men were injured in the incident.

“Their condition is stated to be stable,” the official said.

The details of the incident are still being ascertained.
