Civilians injured at Kulgam shootout, Budgam firing incident succumb in Srinagar hospitals

Srinagar: A civilian who had sustained critical injuries during a shootout at an army camp by militants in  in Khudwani area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Thursday morning succumbed Saturday.

According to reports, 14 year old Muskan Jan of Wangud- Qaimoh had slipped into coma due to her injuries and subsequently, passed away today.

A police official had said that militants fired several shots at an army camp stationed in a part of Rice Research Institute of Sher-e-Kashmir Agriculture University’s (SKAUST) campus at Khudwani in the wee hours on Thursday.

“The army soldiers retaliated, leading to a brief exchange of fire. Muskan was unfortunately caught in a crossfire and sustained bullet injury,”  he said.

She was removed to a sub-district hospital in Qaimoh where from she was referred to SMHS hospital in Srinagar for treatment.

Meanwhile, another civilian who had been injured in a firing incident near an army camp in Chattergam area of central Kashmir’s Budgam district last night died at SKIMS Soura on Saturday.

Ishfaq Ahmad, son of Nazir Ahmad Ganie of Magraypora Budgam, who had been placed on ventilator support, succumbed at 4 am.

Reports had said that he had been fired at by army men. However, the army refuted the claims and said that Ganie was shot at by the militants 500-600 metres away from their camp at Chattergam.
