Srinagar: PDP President Mehbooba Mufti on Thursday criticized certain media houses for claiming the the opening of the Kartarpur Corridor could facilitate the Khalistan agenda — the demand for a separate Sikh homeland.
In a tweet, the former Chief Minister said:
It is quite amusing how some tv channels are trying to distort a gesture like Kartarpur into some kind of conspiracy to create Khalistan . One fails to understand why allowing people pilgrimage to Guru Nanak Dev ji’s birth place would assume such undertones. 1/2

Mehbooba, on the contrary, believes that the corridor could be a ‘new beginning’ of reconciliation between India and Pakistan. She also called for making the borders irrelevant which will facilitate bilateral trade and people to people contact.Kartarpur can be a new beginning of reconciliation between the two neighbours. We cannot change our borders but let us make them irrelevant by facilitating trade & encouraging people to people contact. This will usher in peace & progress for both India & Pakistan. 2/2

Earlier, she had said that after opening the Kartarpur Border for Sikh pilgrims, India and Pakistan should facilitate the opening of Sharda Peeth pilgrimage for Kashmiris. Ina tweet, she had said that Kartarpur is a great example of how religion can bring people together and added that it is a path ‘envisioned by PDP founder Mufti Sayeed to end turmoil in Kashmir.’
