Kashmiri language removed from MHRD’s online portal

Move tantamount to ignoring 98 percent Kashmir speaking people, will create further alienation: Civil Society

Srinagar: The civil society of Kashmir on Friday ridiculed the withdrawing of Kashmiri translations from online portal of Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) and said that the move is tantamount to ignoring 98 percent of Kashmir speaking people.

It is pertinent to mention here that MHRD has withdrawn Kashmiri translations from its language-promoting portal — Bhasha Sangam — after Kashmiri Pandits objected to the version of the language it put out, reports said.

However, the civil society said that they will expose the intend behind the move.

A civil society member, Shakeel Qalander said that the move was aimed to appease two per cent of Kashmir migrants who speak Kashmiri language but at the same time this ‘bizarre step’ was also tantamount to ignoring 98 percent of Kashmiri language speaking people.

He said, “We object the move and Kashmiri Pandits being only two per cent have been appeased by the authorities, which speaks about their negative role against a particular community.”

Qalander said that this move has disappointed them as New Delhi has not left any stone unturned to hurt the sentiments of a particular community day in and day out.

“This move is in fact another step of alienation between local population and New Delhi,” he said, adding that “such moves will make people of Kashmir to rethink about their relation with New Delhi.”

“We will definitely expose the intentions behind the move, which is a Hinudtva move,” he said.

Dr Sheikh Showkat Hussain, Professor Law department Central University Kashmir said that the move is aimed to thrust Hindutva ideology over Kashmir.

He said Kashmiri Pandits in past were also writing the language in same script as it was written by Kashmir Muslims.

He further added that they way Taj Mahal was given a different colour, Kashmiri language is targeted in the same pattern and termed it a ‘short sited mentality’.

He added that the alienation will get multiplied on ground due to such kind of moves and it will add more fuel to the fire.
