Pulwama Gunfight: Intense clashes erupt in Tral, Banihal-Baramulla train service suspended

Srinagar: Following the killing of six militants in a gunfight, intense clashes erupted between armed forces and civilian protesters in parts of Tral.

Reports said that youths took to streets and held massive pro-freedom protest demonstrations. Forces deployed at various spots thwarted the demonstrations prompting youths to pelt stones. They said that forces used tear smoke shells and pellets to disperse the protesters.

Meanwhile, train service between Banihal and Baramulla has been suspended due to apprehension of ‘law and order problems’.

In a brief gunfight in Tral area of Pulwama district, six militants associated with the Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind, led by Zakir Musa were killed on Saturday.

The report added that the forces fired some warning shots towards a ‘militant hideout’ situated in an orchard along the Tral-Awantipora road. The militant group hiding inside the hideout opened fire triggering off a gunfight which lasted for a brief time, he said.
