Imran Khan, Prime Minister of Pakistan, on the birth anniversary of the country’s founder Mohammad Ali Jinnah said that in ‘Naya Pakistan’ minorities will be treated as equal citizens, unlike what is happening in India.
In a tweet Khan said that Jinnah’s demand for a separate nation for Muslims only started when he realized that they won’t be treated as equals in a Hindu majority.

He added that Jinnah had envisaged Pakistan as a “democratic, just and compassionate” nation.
It is the second time in a week that Khan has spoken about the treatment of minorities in India.
On Saturday, he had asserted that Pakistan would ensure equal rights to all minorities and show Indian premier Narendra Modi’s government “how we treat the minorities in Pakistan in stark comparison to the minorities’ status in India”.
His statement had evoked sharp criticism from MP of Hyderabad Asaduddin Owasi.
Owaisi asked Khan to borrow some leaves of wisdom from India, specifically on “inclusive politics and minority rights”.
