Hurriyat (M) releases 2018 report prepared by its Human Rights Division

Srinagar: Hurriyat (M) Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Monday released ‘Human Rights Report 2018’, prepared by the human rights division of the amalgam.

A spokesperson of the amalgam said the report encompasses the details of human rights violations that occurred in Kashmir during the year 2018.

As per the report, the year 2018 witnessed the total number of 543 deaths due to the ongoing conflict in J&K, the highest in the decade.

“Out of 543 persons, 161 were civilians, 127 government forces’ personnel, and 255 armed youth. Besides, 19 men and 8 women total 27 persons got killed on the other side of the line of divide reportedly due to continuous acrimony and exchange of fire between the forces deployed there,” he said.

The report has a detailed mention about the physical assault of journalists by the government forces while performing their professional duties in the state, said the spokesman.

Figures shared by Human Rights bodies in Kashmir are much higher.

Earlier, the Jammu and Kashmir Coalition of Civil Society in their annual report said that the year 2018 was the deadliest year of the last decade in Indian administered Kashmir as violence peaked during the year resulting in the killing of at least 586 people in different incidents of violence, which is highest in the last decade.
