Srinagar: The Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) on Thursday condemned the killing of a Sikh youth in Tral area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district last week, saying ‘the loss of human lives is deplorable”.
Ina statement, the JRL added that such incidents aim at destroying the communal harmony of the state.
The JRL comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik said that the Sikh community always stood with the majority community in the resistance movement even when attempts were made by (Indian) agencies to give it a sectarian angle.”
“…even after the massacre of Sikhs in Chhattisinghpora, the people of this community showed far-sightedness and patience to defeat the communal forces.”
The leaders said that the protection of minorities, whether they are Sikhs, Hindus, or Buddhists is our political and moral responsibility. “We have been taught about protecting them in our religion,” they said, in the statement.
The JRL said that a high-level delegation will visit the family of slain Sikh youth Simranjeet Singh in Tral to express their solidarity and convey that they are safe in Kashmir. “…the incident of killing of Simranjeet Singh is reprehensible in every way and that the aim of such incidents is to disturb the communal harmony here,” they said.
After the killing, around 30 Sarpanchs and Panchs have resigned en masse in Pulwama district of Kashmir. The youth identified as Simranjeet Singh, alias Suman Singh, was the brother of a sarpanch. He was killed on Friday in Tral.
