Srinagar: After stranded Kashmiri passengers who were putting up in Jammu’s Auqaf building were pelted with stones by some students in Jammu, the community of Sikhs rose above religion and caste, by setting up free kitchens and accommodation in Gurudwaras for stranded Kashmiris on the National Highway.
Sikhs of Jammu posted the addresses of the Gurudwaras where Langars were set up on social networking websites and are receiving tremendous appreciation from the valley.
“Dear all Kashmiris, especially Muslim brothers and sisters, who are stuck in Jammu Bus Stand due to closure of Jammu Sringar National Highway are requested to go to any Gurudwara in Jammu nearby Chand Kour, BC Road, Nanak Nagar and Digiana Ashram,” posted Bhupinder Singh Sodhi.
“Sikh community has started Free Langar and accommodation for everyone,” the post read.
Due to heavy snowfall and bad weather conditions in the valley, the air and road transport has come to a halt. No one is able to come in or go outside the valley. The students aspiring to crack various exams missed their exams centered outside the state.
People wanting to move out to seek medical help or meet their families are stuck at the Jammu and Kashmir National Highway for eighth consecutive day as the airfares to Kashmir touches the sky.
While the Kashmiris were stuck in their vehicles on roads or accommodated in Hotels, communal atmosphere against them was brewing. They commuters shared video of Jammu Students hurling stones at them. Also, they are being charged Rs 50 per hour to charge their mobile devices.
On the other hand, many in Jammu were seen protesting against the commuters for raising ‘pro-Pakistani slogans’ and attacking them in a college in Jammu.

“We had been to their college to avail Dakota service. After we left and came back on the Highway, there was too much chaos. They had hurled stones on the stranded Kashmiris. It is unacceptable and hurtful,” said a Kashmiri student, waiting on the Highway for 8th consecutive day.
“The Sikhs have made it easy, like always. They make us believe that humanity exists. We had no food or money left with us. We were suffering and they arranged a Langar just 20 minutes from here,” he adds.
