Sixteen-year-old Kashmiri girl ‘missing’ in Jammu traced, says police

Srinagar: A sixteen-year-old Kashmiri girl who had gone missing in Jammu on February 15, amid attacks on Kashmiris, has been traced by the local police. She was staying at an acquaintance’s place and had informed the family before leaving, say the police.

Sameera Akhtar, a Kashmiri female’s family had lodged an FIR on February 16 in the concerned police station in Bag-e-Bahu, Jammu.

According to her family, she went missing on February 15 from her Jammu residence amid the flare up against Kashmiris after a deadly attack on Indian armed forces in Pulwama district in Kashmir on February 14.

The family hails from Khag area in Budgam district, central Kashmir and shifts to Jammu for a few months, escaping the harsh winter in the valley. They had shifted in December.

“We traced her today on 20th February at around 5 in the morning. She had left the home on her own after seeking permission from her parents. She was staying with some relative friend who resides near their rented accommodation here in Jammu,” says Head Constable Basharat Ahmad, Police Station Bagh-e-Bahu.

“Its a sham. It was nothing. She is absolutely fine,” he adds.

The contact number of the family is switched off at the moment. According to Ahmad, the family is in court for the same case.

Earlier, the cops had told Free Press Kashmir that they were ascertaining whether the girl has been kidnapped or she went away on her own.

“Yes. There is an FIR. The number is 15 and has been lodged on 16-02-2019. The investigation is currently ongoing. We are going to access the call details to see who she was in contact with. Once we find evidence, only then we can ascertain if she has been kidnapped or has gone by her own will. As of now we can’t say anything,” local police stationed at Bag-e-Bahu had said.
