Sopore gunfight: Fresh firing reported, clashes erupt

Srinagar: Fresh firing was reported at the gunfight between militants and armed forces’ in Warpora area of Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Friday.

According to GNS, a militant died in the gunfight so far that broke out late last night following an eight-hour search operation.

Reports said that a fresh exchange of gunfire was reported after a lull of several hours.

Meanwhile, clashes erupted in Warpora after civilians tried to march towards the site of the gunfight.

Reports said that market remained closed in Sopore town due to the gunfight. However, traffic was plying on the town roads, they said.

Meanwhile, authorities suspended mobile Internet services and imposed restrictions under Section 144 CRPC in the area.

“In view of the apprehension of law and order problem, restrictions under Section 144 CRPC are hereby imposed on the gathering of more than 4 persons in entire Sub-division Sopore with effect from evening 21-02- 2019 till further orders,” read an order issued by the Additional District Magistrate Sopore, reported GNS.
