The Election Commission of India has decided not to hold Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, citing security reasons.
The decision about state assembly elections will be taken later. In the wake of recent violent events and keeping all challenges in mind and taking totality of views, only Lok Sabha schedule will be announced.
The JK political parties had pitched state and Lok Sabha polls be held simultaneously before a panel of commission, which visited the state last week.
Reacting to the announcement, Vice President of National Conference Omar Abdullah has said that Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi has ‘surrendered to Pakistan, militants and Hurriyat’.

In another tweet, Omar asked what happened to the assurances of Home Minister of India Rajnath Singh that polls will be held simultaneously.
