Modi Govt has consciously disenfranchised people in JK by not holding Assembly elections, says Omar

Srinagar: National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah on Wednesday said that the Modi Government has ‘consciously disenfranchised people in J&K by not holding Assembly elections on time.’

In a series of tweets, the former Chief Minister said that the Government of India should give the democratic right to the people of JK to choose their own government.

Election Commission of India recently decided not to hold the Assembly elections in the state citing security reasons.

The regional parties have appealed New Delhi to hold the assembly elections in the state, the Election Commission of India has not announced the dates as of yet. The delay in announcement of assembly elections has drawn severe criticism from all the mainstream parties in the state.
