Won’t meet Election Commission team, have cleared our stand already, says NC

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference on Thursday said the party will not meet the Election Commission of India team in Srinagar.

A spokesperson of the party said that J&K National Conference has decided not to meet the ECI delegation.

“NC has already made its position clear on LS and LA elections in the state. Our demand of having simultaneous Assembly and LS elections in the state in our earlier meetings with the ECI team remains as it is.”

The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Monday announced seven-phase parliamentary polls, but decided not to hold assembly elections in J&K, which is presently under the president’s rule.

Meanwhile, amid growing criticism of the election commission of India’s decision to withhold assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, three “special observers” appointed by the poll-body will arrive in Srinagar on Thursday to “assess the ground situation” for holding the state elections.

A senior NC leader who was supposed to be a part of the delegation said that they have decided not call on the observers.
