Civilian sustains bullet injuries during clashes in Sopore

Srinagar: A civilian was injured after violent clashes erupted between protesters and armed forces in Sopore and has been referred to Srinagar for specialised treatment.

The youth has been identified as Muzaffar Ahmad Khan from Chakrode Sopore. He has sustained bullet injuries in leg and hand.

Clashes erupted in Sopore’s Main town after a militants lobbed a grenade on CRPF camp near SBI Bank.

Forces used tear-smoke shells and pellets to disperse the protesters.

Earlier, an official said that the militants hurled a grenade at the forces during a search operation in Warpora area today morning.

SHO Dangiwacha Mudasir Geelani and his PSO Javed Ahmad were wounded in the blast, he said, adding that both of them have been shifted to Srinagar for specialized treatment.

Reports said that one or two militants are believed to be trapped including a top commander. Internet has been also suspended in parts of Sopore as a precautionary measures, said the report.
