GoI orders suspension of LoC trade from April 19

The Government of India has ordered the suspension of Cross LoC trade between India and Pakistan from 19th April.

The Ministry of Home Affairs has said that the action was taken as the Government has been ‘receiving reports of cross LoC trade routes being misused by Pakistan based elements for funneling illegal weapons, narcotics & fake currency.’

Since the Pulwama attack which lead to escalation between the two countries, LoC trade has remained disturbed.

The Union Home Ministry also said that the NIA has found out that a significant number of trading concerns are operated by persons closely associated with banned terror organizations.

Moreover, the Ministry also added that after a stricter regulatory and enforcement mechanism is worked out, the issue of reopening will be revisited thereafter.
